Experiencing India

In Geography, Form 5 (Year 4) is learning about India and the children have spent time looking at its location, shape, major cities and features, and its distance from the UK. The class also spent a lesson watching YouTube clips on India, to gain a feeling for the atmosphere of the country.

Last week, the class welcomed a visitor who has lived in India and recently returned from a six-week visit. She spoke to the children about the differences between rural and urban India, describing life in a beautiful and happy village but without a regular electricity supply, where parents were often separated because of the need to find jobs in the urban areas. She looked at life in the huge cities and considered the vast difference in wealth between the rich and the poor.
The children then had to decide whether they would like to live in rural or urban India and give their reasons.
