Message from the head

Alison Cooke, Headmistress

Children are truly happy at Russell House Prep School (near Sevenoaks in Kent) and they achieve outstanding academic results. These are my aims and they underpin all that we do here.

Russell House provides a well-rounded education, embracing the values of tolerance, enthusiasm, vigorous commitment, understanding and respect for others. Academic excellence goes hand in hand with an ethos that encourages individuality, self-expression and curiosity to learn. As an independent school, we cultivate a calm, happy atmosphere, based on respect for other people, their property and the environment. There is also a strong emphasis on building skills for the future and developing a sensitive awareness of the world beyond school.

Equally important at Russell House is the attitude of mutual respect between teachers and pupils, the nurturing of self-esteem – though never at the expense of others – and the promotion of a communal vision through teamwork.

You may be aware that from September 2012, Craig McCarthy will be the new Headteacher at Russell House, following my retirement at the end of this school year. He introduces himself to parents here and is committed to preserving the best of Russell House while, of course, bringing his energy and experience to ensure that our school continues to provide an inspiring, motivating environment for children into the future.

Russell House is a family school with a special atmosphere. Come and meet our enthusiastic and dedicated teachers and see our children at work and at play in our prep school’s beautiful setting, nestled beneath the North Downs near Sevenoaks in Kent. I am always delighted to welcome visitors and show them around personally.
