Food and drink

Water
We believe it is very important for children to drink regularly during the day, and from Form 1 the children bring in a named water bottle which is kept in the classroom. Up to Form 2, these are washed and the water changed daily for the children but from Form 3 upwards, the children are given responsibility for looking after their own water bottles, filling them from the tap in school and taking them home regularly for washing. Children have water jugs and beakers on the tables at lunchtime.

Mid morning snack
From Transition up, children may bring in fruit to eat at mid-morning break. On Wednesdays, the children may bring in a sandwich in order to give them extra energy for swimming.

Waiting Group snack
Children who go in to Waiting Group at the end of the day, or who stay at school for a club in the afternoon, may bring in a snack to eat directly after school. The contents of this are left to the parent’s discretion but sweets may not be included.

Lunch
We aim to provide a wholesome, healthy lunch for the children, cooking as much as possible from fresh food, preferably locally sourced. Children are offered one protein dish with two vegetables and carbohydrates. Children who are vegetarian or who do not eat meat for religious or other reasons receive a vegetarian option. We are able to cope with food intolerances and allergies. All children eat school lunch. Menus for the week ahead are included on the weekly class bulletin sent to parents every Friday.
