You only have to look at some of the activities in the top classes to see how our teachers are pushing the boundaries of what you might expect 9-11 year olds to be learning.
We do not stay in the realms of Key Stage 2, but challenge the children to apply their knowledge to real questions and classic works. In Science, for example, ‘research teams’ use advanced ICT skills to explore rates of chemical reaction. In English, children enjoy studying Chaucer, early Anglo Saxon poetry and ballads, including Coleridge’s Rime of the Ancient Mariner. They are involved in Shakespeare workshops based on plays such as Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
We encourage independence of thought and the confidence to question and investigate. The results are impressive.
