Wrens, music & gym clubs

The Russell Wrens Music and Gym clubs are a wonderful introduction to music and movement for children aged under three with their parent or carer. Children interact with others, develop their ability to follow instructions and learn about taking turns. Held in Russell House School in Otford, they are taken by specialist teachers.

Wrens Music
These take place on Thursdays during term times between 9.40am and 10.15am in the school music room. They are led by our headmistress, Alison Cooke, who is passionate about music and the benefits it brings to children.

The classes make music familiar and fun while helping the children to develop a sense of pitch and rhythm and become used to singing. Simple songs are used to enhance children’s developing vocabulary. Fine motor skills are developed through playing instruments and doing actions to songs. On a broader level, the classes help to reinforce concepts such as taking turns and listening.

Wrens Gym
These classes are linked to the British Gymnastics Fun Fit scheme and are aimed at children aged from 18 months to 3 years old. They are teacher-led but allow the children freedom to explore how their bodies move and work. Each week starts with the children exploring the large apparatus and small-hand apparatus like bean bags, hoops, tap sticks, ribbons, feathers and balloons. The session ends with a group activity and parachute games. The club takes place on Thursdays during term time from 10.15 – 10.45am in our sports hall.
