We strive to develop in our pupils a sense of the wider world in practical terms. This includes working closely with our local community and we have chosen also to look further afield.

In partnership with United World Schools, we are funding a new school in Nepal. It is a project that has grown from the foundations up and involves our whole school community pulling together to help provide the greatest gift we can: a good education, where children are encouraged to think for themselves.

The first phase was the building project. The school has been constructed in Ishma, a community of some 1,600 people in the foothills of the Himalayas. Foundations were started after the rainy season in September 2019. By spring 2020, the new school was ready to open its doors to around 200 primary school aged pupils who, until then, had no access to education. Lessons include Nepali, English, Maths and Science.

With support from our parent body here in the UK, we have an on-going involvement raising funds for the logistical running of the school. In addition, we are establishing links with the pupils there and sharing knowledge, experiences and fun with our ‘extended family’ in Ishma.

It is a life-changing project for the local community. We believe our involvement will also be a transformative experience for our children here in Kent. The learning opportunities are as exciting as they are varied. It is a project in global citizenship, opening our children’s eyes to other people’s lives in an accessible way and an opportunity to learn important life lessons.
