A king's trial

In humanities, the Form 6 children have been learning about King Charles 1.
To understand more about the trial of King Charles I, after his capture at the end of the English Civil War, Form 6 re-enacted various scenes from the trial. We discussed the significance of placing the King on trial and the impact this had. We also talked about what makes a fair trial and decided if we felt the King would have had one. We also looked closely at how King Charles reacted to being placed on trial.

In science, Form 6 has been learning all about the effect of exercise on the Circulatory System, as part of their Keeping Healthy topic. To better understand the effect, they needed to understand the structure and function of the components of this system, including the heart. In Thursday's science lesson, they dissected a lamb's heart and they were able to identify the four chambers (right and left atria and ventricles) and the main veins and arteries into and out of the heart. They saw the blood vessels that feed oxygen and glucose to the heart itself and learnt that it is these that are blocked when a heart attack occurs. They were most excited though to locate the heart strings which prevent the heart valves from inverting under pressure.

On Monday, the second group from From 6 visited the Sevenoaks Larder and listened carefully to instructions before helping to pack and ready the boxes for the week's orders.
