Anatomy of an arm
06 Dec 2024This week in science, Form 5 dissected a chicken wing to compare the similarities between a human's arm and bird's wing.
They were able to identify the biceps and triceps and see how these muscles attached to the humerus and lifted the forearm. They were also able to see the detail of joints and how the bones were protected from friction by smooth cartilage. Finally, they snapped a bone and they were able to see the bone marrow where red blood cells are made. The children always love the practical science lessons on offer at our school and although some were slightly squeamish, the children all gained valuable biology knowledge.
