Creating questions

After the build up and sitting of the 11+ last week and the subsequent visit to Chessington on Friday, this week has felt a lot calmer in class. Despite this, our week has still been packed with excitement and new learning.

In maths and English lessons, much of the work has been carried out in The Hub. In English, the children have been refining their research skills, using the Chromebooks to find out information from reliable sources about a range of topics including the Ancient Greek Olympics and the history of the Barbie doll. In maths lessons, the children have been demonstrating their understanding of concepts, such as area and negative numbers by writing questions for each other to solve and playing games to perfect their skills.

In humanities, children have continued to learn about many of the shortcomings that led to the tragedy of the Titanic. We were stunned to find out that shortcuts had been taken when building the ship and were surprised by the actions of some of the key people involved in the building and the sailing of the ship. We enjoyed learning about some of the artefacts that had been recovered from the wreck. Can you work out what the ones in the picture are? We also discussed the morality behind making films about tragedies, which led to some interesting debate.

This week also saw the return of sporting fixtures with our teams gaining mixed results. Thank you to the large amount of support that we received from our parents. Your support is always welcomed and certainly gave our teams a boost this week.
