Dissecting the week’s work
11 Oct 2024I could start nowhere else other than talking about Mrs Carn’s science lesson this week. Form 7 have been learning about the structure and function of the eye as part of our Light topic. They dissected a pig eye and were able to identify the optic nerve, the iris and gap that is the pupil.
Making an incision into the tough exterior of the eyeball enabled them to see the inside of the iris, release the fluid and lens and see the beautifully iridescent retina. They were even able to locate the blind spot by tracing the nerve bundles to one place.
In English and humanities lessons, the children have continued their work on the Titanic, resulting in some excellent news articles being published in lessons. They were tasked with recounting the key events in their piece, along with adding quotes from a range of people that were involved in the building and the rescue of the boat. The children have also been practising their research skills and enjoyed presenting their findings in class.
A final thank you this week goes to all the families that made a generous donation to Sevenoaks Larder as part of our Harvest Festival in school this week. I am sure that all donations will be gratefully received and will go to those who need it most. Well done to the children that read and performed in the Festival itself. There were some outstanding moments and I’m sure lots of parents went away feeling proud.
