Hello, Funnybones!

The children had a spooktacular start to the week when they decorated pumpkins with stickers and coloured pens.

Afterwards, they were placed on our interest table along with this week’s topic stories. Rather than waste the pumpkins, I will take them to Second Chance Animal Rescue in Crockenhill as the pigs and meerkats will be grateful for their yummy treats.

Continuing with our spooky theme, there was a special delivery on Monday morning... it was our old friend FunnyBones. The children were very excited when they saw him jump out of his bag in Mrs Tickner’s Office. Wasting no time, the Robins showed FunnyBones the school grounds and he even accompanied us to music with Miss Norford. It has been lovely to see how much enjoyment the children have had with their new friend. He played on the trampoline, rode in the cars, joined us for a snack and he even made skeleton angels in the green sand.

It has been wonderful to observe the autumnal changes over the past few weeks and the pretty red and orange leaves around the Paddock area. We also collected some of the leaves to make some crunchy pictures. Following on with our autumnal theme, the children enjoyed making sun catchers.

Lots of fun was had on Tuesday when we visited the Russell Hall for our PE circuit. It was great to see the children move around independently and use their super strong muscles to swim across the big blue mat. I am very impressed with the children’s listening skills and as each week passes, it is wonderful to see their confidence grow.

A new Robin joined us this week for a settling-in session and we are looking forward to welcoming her to our class when we return after half term.

This week’s cooking activities have consisted of Halloween muffins and ghoulish chocolate cake with scary skeletons on top. We also made a cake delivery to Mrs Tickner, Mrs Parker and Mr McCarthy. They were all thrilled with their yummy treats and couldn’t wait to enjoy them with a nice cup of tea.

The Robins enjoyed looking at our Talk for Learning poster and they were able to point or share their favourite picture. The pumpkin and cheeky witch were both very popular.

The children also enjoyed a spooky tea party and they liked our special tablecloth.

There has been lots of great counting this week and the Robins have enjoyed counting a variety of objects. In fact, they were able to count their bookbags and the amount of sea animals on the CTouch board.

On Thursday, we explored the school grounds and chased bubbles on the school field. We are certainly very lucky to be surrounded by rolling countryside and a variety of animals. Afterwards, we went for a nice picnic in the Outdoor Classroom. It was great to watch the trains go whooshing past as they made their way to London.

The children enjoyed our Halloween scrimbling activity and everyone had great fun, wiggling and jiggling to Monster Mash and Ghostbusters.

To make our pictures extra special, we added different-sized stickers!

To end the week, we took part in our Pre-Prep Coffee Morning. All the children did such an amazing job and it is lovely to watch the children’s progression as they move through the Pre-Prep. It’s amazing to think that at the age of 2, the children are able to identify a variety of birds and whether they nest in a tree or on the ground.

Our topics for Week 8 will be Diwali and Fireworks. Perhaps your child might like to bring in something linked to our topics. Perhaps a picture, story or anything else they would like to share with us.

Finally, I hope you have a great half-term and I look forward to hearing all about your break when we return. Please remember that the children love to share their weekly news during snack time and it is a great tool to develop their confidence as they take turns to speak and share.

Happy half-term everyone!
