Poetry and positivity
13 Sep 2024This week’s topic in Russell Robins was Poems/ Positivity Quotes.
This consisted of one of The Tortoise and the Hare, which is one of the best known of Aesop’s Fables. Acting quickly and carelessly can cause mistakes, whereas thinking things through first can lead to success. This, of course, provided our famous quote of the week… slow and steady wins the race! The Robins enjoyed watching a video of The Tortoise and the Hare and they also used a variety of materials to decorate their special pictures.
Carrying on with our topic, we also learnt a poem about autumn leaves. This led to lots of discussions about leaves. In particular, one of our Robins found a very big leaf!
The children’s interests are regularly incorporated into our weekly activities. Therefore, this week we explored Disney and the Robins liked adding characters to their play-dough models.
Lots of fun was had on Tuesday morning during our sensory circuit in the Russell Hall. The children carefully made their way around the circuit after watching my demonstration. The Robins then moved round the circuit in a variety of different ways. Some of the Robins chose to walk across the bench and others chose to crawl or pull themselves across. There was a bobbly snake, stepping stones and padded mats. I must say how pleased I was with the level of perseverance as the children tried to take off their shoes and socks. Well done, Robins.
The CTouch has been very popular this week and the Robins enjoyed making marks with their friends. This activity is always a great way to promote turn-taking.
Our weekly cooking activities consisted of slow and steady mousse and jelly and tomato and rosemary bread. First, we had a discussion on the carpet and then we all moved round the table to take turns whisking the ingredients.
Form 6 rejoined us this week and it has been wonderful to see the delight in all the children’s faces. Our helpers are certainly doing a great job of helping our Robins. In fact, Form 6 joined in with the Robins to work together to pick yummy tomatoes from our vegetable patch. We still have lots of green tomatoes, so hopefully it won’t be too long before we can eat them. I hope you enjoyed tasting them at home.
In true Robins style, we ventured around the school grounds and visited The Farm. We stopped off on the way back to class for a warming hot chocolate drink. The children had lots of fun walking through the woods and running through the wishing tree.
Next week’s topic is Seed Collecting. There are lots of fun activities planned and you might even get some special seeds to plant at home. Perhaps your child might like to bring in something linked to our topic.
