Robins at the ready

Welcome back to the Autumn Term in Russell Robins.

A short first week back, but what a fun week it has been. This consisted of walks around the school grounds, hot chocolate treats and, of course, cooking! Our existing children have been so welcoming to the new Robins and it has been wonderful watching them all play alongside each other, exploring the many resources and activities on offer.

This week’s topics were Marvellous Me and Settling In.  This was based around getting to know each other and our families. There were lots of opportunities to draw our families during free-play and the Robins were proud of their drawings. We enjoyed many stories about starting school and the children took turns to help change the pictures on our visual timetable. The Robins were able to identify what was happening now and what was going to happen next. Of course, the children were delighted when I shook the sticker box during carpet time. Each child received a sticker for good sitting and good listening.

Our first day back consisted of making a very yummy banana and cinnamon cake. We made a cake delivery to Mrs Tickner, Mrs Parker and Mr McCarthy. They were all very pleased with their sweet-smelling cake which was fresh from the oven! During carpet time we spoke about the ingredients and counted the eggs. Well done, Robins.

I introduced a fine-motor activity as part of our outdoor provision and it was certainly popular. It was great to see the children use the threading and weaving frame in different ways. Pegs were also attached to support muscle development. One of our Robins enjoyed attaching the pegs to the brightly coloured ribbon and wool.

On Thursday, we made bread rolls and it was great to see the children using their strong muscles to knead and pat the dough.

We finished the week with an energetic PE session in the Russell Hall.

Next week’s topic is Poems and Positivity Quotes. We will be learning about The Hare and the Tortoise so perhaps your child might like to bring in something linked to our topic.
