Stargazing into space
29 Nov 2024Form 6 started off their week with a superb science assembly all about space.
The children designed and created their own slides, which were full of fascinating facts and brilliant pictures. They spoke with superb clarity and it was wonderful to see how much they have learned about space.
They also enjoyed a trip to the Book Fair on Monday afternoon. All of the children looked excitedly through the books on offer and there were some very happy faces afterwards.
- Mr McCarthy set up his telescope and we went out with binoculars and saw the stars. We saw Venus and I saw the international space station. We had hot chocolate and we had star-shaped cookies. Rory
- It was a great night and we saw Venus through his telescope. We heard lots of facts about space. Clara
- If you were not looking through the telescope, then you got to look through binoculars. As soon as we got there, we saw NASA’s international space station (ISS). We knew it wasn't a plane because it didn't have a flashing green and red light and it was very fast. We saw the constellation of the summer triangle. We also saw the asterism of a W. Alba
- When we got outside there were not many stars but we watched them slowly appear, then we looked through some binoculars at Venus and learnt how to tell a star from a planet - a star twinkles, but a planet does not.
