The blue balloon

What a lovely book to start the week with the story of the Blue Balloon.

The children love listening to the story and looking at the fun illustrations all about the magical blue balloon. They all loved using the pump to blow up the balloons using their big muscles to keep the balloons inflated.  There was lots of giggling when the balloons came off the end, making a rude sound, just like in the story. The children then used their balloons to make prints using different shades of blue. They were all very careful to make sure the balloons did not pop.

The children did really well listening to our instructions of how to use the hammer, nails and the pins safely when they were using them to bang into the pumpkins. They carefully held the nails at the bottom and used the hammer to gently tap them into place before banging them all the way in. They created some lovely patterns on the pumpkins using the coloured pins. Next week we'll be making magic pumpkin potions.

The children all had a go at writing their names this week and we were so impressed with the children’s efforts trying to form some of the letters correctly. It is always so wonderful to see the children having the confidence to have a go at new things and be proud of what they have achieved.

The children loved choosing stickers to pull off to decorate their plates to create a bat to hit the balloons with. We had a lovely variety of decorated bats with superhero and star stickers. The children then invented a game of keepy uppy using their bats to keep the balloons in the air as long as they could. We hope you all enjoyed a game of keepy uppy with the bats and balloons which the children brought home.

There was lots of exploring of colours when the children painted the ice with different colours. It was lovely to see the ice changing colours and mixing them together to create new colours. The ice was so cold that it was stuck together, so the children thought of different ways to break the ice. Spoons and a hammer were the perfect choice!

A range of different blue media was used to create blue pictures. The chalks and the acrylics were explored by rubbing them together to make different colours and effects. The children drew some lovely pictures of a snake, a person, a monkey and a rollercoaster.

We went on a chilly walk up to the play equipment and we saw Mr Phil on the ride-on lawn mower. We were very careful not to get in his way and waved to him when he drove past.

Other activities this week have included dressing up as superheroes, using the screwdriver and drill to build a racing car, building an amazing train track for the trains, doing work in the office, riding bikes and playing in the sand.

It was so lovely to see so many of you and Nanas, Papas and Grans too at our Harvest celebrations on Wednesday. The children did amazingly well. Mrs Sayers and I were so proud of them listening to them singing their harvest songs about Mr Scarecrow and gathering all the fruits and vegetables. It’s always such a wonderful occasion to have the whole school together. Thank you too for the donations for Sevenoaks Larder.

We can hardly believe we are almost at half term already! We are looking forward to our Pre-Prep Coffee Morning next week. The children have been working really hard thinking about the different seasons. They are excited to show you what they have been learning.
