Viewpoints of the Vikings

Form 4 started a new topic in humanities.

They were introduced to the Vikings in humanities and learnt about the longboats and where the Vikings travelled to. They also found out about the raid on Lindisfarne and wrote about it from the viewpoint of an Anglo-Saxon monk.

English has been closely linked with humanities, as they have been looking at the story of Beowulf. The children are now writing their own quest stories based on Beowulf's adventures to defeat Grendel and his mother.

Form 4 have been tackling fractions this week in maths. They began with finding fractions of a shape and then moved on to equivalent fractions and fractions of an amount. Adding and subtracting fractions completed this week and they will be consolidating their knowledge next week.

In science, they had a good dig around in samples of soil to find out what it was made of. They found several worms, plant roots and stones, as well as pieces of plastic and the odd centipede.
