Science goes with a pop

There has been a huge amount of collaboration in Form 7 this week.

The circle projects in Maths continue apace and, in Humanities and English, the children have enjoyed working both together and independently on their Amazon Rainforest project.

They used a Google app, called Jamboard, to compile poetic ideas for a rainforest senses poem. They also followed online instructions on how to easily draw a map of the world and then of the Americas, using only straight lines.

As part of their acids and bases topic, Form 7 learnt about the chemical reaction between hydrochloric acid and magnesium. They carefully stoppered the test tube to collect the gas that was produced. They lit the gas, which exploded with a squeaky pop, thus identifying it as hydrogen. Together we then wrote a word equation and balanced symbol equation for this reaction.
