The tortoise and the sundial

Form 4 had great fun recreating the battle formations the Roman soldiers out on the playground.

They worked together to create both attacking and defensive manoeuvres and were particularly impressive when walking together in the tortoise formation. They then imagined what life would be like as a Roman soldier and wrote letters about the invasion of Britain. For the authentic look, they ripped them up and soaked them in tea.

In science they tried, with only partial success, to make a sundial. The cloud cover meant that some of the timings were missing, but they recorded enough to show the movement of the shadow throughout the day.

Maths has been focusing on 2D shape and the children worked in groups to match pictures, names and explanations of various shapes. They have also been writing stories in English.
