Summer is here
16 Jun 2023It has been another busy summer week at school. We have been doing all we can to stay nice and cool. Our new shelter provides us with lots of shade in the daytime which means we can still play outside even if it is sunny.
Last week on Friday, we had the opportunity to plant our well established pumpkin plants. We started growing our pumpkin plants at the start of the year and they were becoming too large for their pots. Luckily, we have plenty of space at The Farm where we could plant them and give them space to grow. We are going to visit the pumpkins weekly to ensure they have been watered and we are thoroughly looking forward to observing the changes and watching them grow!
We have enjoyed taking part in lots of water based activities such as using the gutters and pipes to transport water and giving the Russell Robins' cars a wash!
Our theme for the week has been under the sea and summer. We have been operating a beach café role-play area outside where the children have been serving us ice creams and other yummy treats. We have also been engaging in lots of tuff tray fun. Miss Mitchem had buried some treasure in a tuff tray which we had to find. There were also lots of shells and other materials to look through, we had to use tongs to retrieve the coins!
On Tuesday, it was time to harvest our potatoes. We had started the process of growing our own potatoes at the end of February. Since the beginning, we have had lots of different stages to complete to ensure our potatoes could grow. Before we searched through the soil to find the potatoes, we all had an estimate as to how many potatoes we would find! These ranged from 48 to 100,000! It was lots of fun searching and separating the potatoes from the soil. In the end we counted 88 potatoes. A super effort by Transition. On Wednesday, Miss Mitchem cooked the potatoes and we each had a taste and enjoyed them very much.
Our sound of the week has been the j sound. Jamie, jet, jam, jacket and jellyfish were some of the fantastic ideas given during our carpet time session. Miss Mitchem made some jiggling jelly as a special treat as we have filled our class marble ja. Well done, Transition.
We have had lots of fun discussing our daddies this week. During circle time, we shared our happy memories and also things we could do to make our daddies happy. It was lovely to hear all the lovely ideas! On Wednesday, we took a trip to the Father’s Day stall and got to purchase a lovely gift for our Dads too. We hope you have a lovely weekend celebrating.
On Thursday, it was French day. The children came into school wearing the colours of the French flag and we even had some French characters. In the morning, we had the chance to visit the French market which was run by Madame Boff. We tried some delicious croissants and pain au chocolat. At lunchtime, it was the perfect weather for a picnic. We sat down all together and enjoyed our filled baguettes in the sunshine. What a super week we’ve had.
