The ice challenge

How many hours can you keep an ice cube frozen? Form 7 took the challenge...

Over half term Form 7's homework was to make a container to hold an ice cube and keep it frozen for as long as possible.

They brought in their containers for testing. In houses, they estimated how long they thought the ice-cube would stay frozen in each container. They had to be correct to the nearest 5 minutes. Eddie won that game.

We then waited to see which container kept the ice-cube frozen for the longest time. Six hours later both Sams still had a significant amount of ice in their containers.

Well done to all for some brilliantly designed ice cube containers. Over the next few weeks we will be learning about the three different methods of heat transfer and how the materials used in the challenge limited that transfer.
