Russell House Nursery, at our school near Sevenoaks in Kent, is a busy, happy environment where teaching and learning continues to be based around play. It forms a natural progression from our Robins class but the children are given a little more independence and encouraged to think for themselves more.
The Nursery classroom opens out onto a beautiful garden with larger climbing equipment and resources suited to three year olds – including a mud kitchen. They use laptops in our Hub and make the most of our beautiful grounds with views across the Kent Downs.
Books are used to reach all areas of learning. For example, when the class read Stanley's Stick, they explored the school grounds looking for sticks; they found where sticks came from; they discovered the properties of sticks (floating, breaking, hard, light, or heavy); they counted sticks; compared lengths; decorated sticks; made shapes and frames from sticks; thought about uses for their sticks, and much, much more!
Please visit the Nursery news pages to find out more about their activities in class.
