Heart strings
17 Oct 2025In science, Form 6 has been learning all about the effect of exercise on the circulatory system, as part of their Keeping Healthy topic.
To better understand the effect, they needed to understand the structure and function of the components of this system, including the heart. On Thursday, they dissected a lamb heart and they were able to identify the four chambers (right and left atria and ventricles), as well as the main veins and arteries into and out of the heart. They saw the blood vessels that feed oxygen and glucose to the heart itself and they learnt that it is these that are blocked when a heart attack occurs. They were most excited though to locate the heart strings, which prevent the heart valves from inverting under pressure.
In humanities, the children have been presenting their Family Trees to the class and it has been fascinating hearing about everyone's families, past and present.
Last Friday, we had three members of Form 6 represent the school in the ISA London South Swimming Gala. They all swam brilliantly and one pupil finished in an incredible second place, winning the silver medal.
It has been a fantastic first half of the term in Form 6. Well done to all of the children for working so hard and we look forward to seeing you back after the half term break.
