Justice, power and leadership
03 Oct 2025In humanities this week, Form 6 took part in some role-play sessions acting out the trial of King Charles I, stepping into the shoes of judges, witnesses and the king himself.
The activity sparked thoughtful debate about justice, power and leadership. The children were fully engaged in exploring the arguments for and against the king’s execution. It was a great way to bring history to life and deepen their understanding of this significant moment in British history.
In English over the first few weeks of term, the children have been harnessing their creativity and starting to think more carefully about their use of words to create certain atmospheres. A wander around the school gave them food for thought in writing a poem called If the Walls Could Talk, where they captured the spirit of Russell House by personifying the very walls which surround us. A call-back to the summer just gone had them looking at a picture called Busy Beach and using their powers of description to communicate the sense of joy that a beautiful day on the beach elicits.
