Measuring up

We have been looking at measures this week in maths.

They have been converting units and learning how to read scales accurately. There was then time to put this to the test by measuring the capacity of a range of containers. The children also had the fun of magic maths day, where Mr Shield came to visit and taught them various number tricks to try out at home.

In English, the children have been completing their pieces of persuasive writing. They've thought carefully about their audience and tried to come up with convincing arguments to support their views.

This week sees the end of the humanities and science topics and the children have been consolidating their knowledge of both Hinduism and magnets and springs. They remembered many key facts across the subjects and had to put this knowledge to the test with some end-of-unit quizzes.

As well as the practical maths sessions, the children have been taking lessons outside whenever possible to tie in with Environmental week. Music was a particular favourite, where they have been learning about African Music. This activity saw them working in small ensembles and rehearsing pieces based on either African countries, rivers or cities using rhythmic notation.
