Start the week dancing

What a busy week we have had in Transition!

As part of the Form 7’s Legacy Project, the whole school took part in the Danceathon. This meant that for the full day we had to keep dancing. All the children in Transition were keen to show off their dancing skills. We had great fun moving to the music and thinking of new dance moves to use.

On Tuesday, we went on our annual trip to Lullingstone. This has been a real high point of our week with everyone enjoying the trip. Firstly, I want to begin by saying what a super bunch of children we have with everyone demonstrating great manners and behaviour. Taking part in forest school activities presents an element of risk which is why it was so important that we listened to the instructions from the park ranger. We had a fun-filled morning taking part in lots of activities. We all had our first experience of riding on the minibuses too.

Once we had arrived, the ranger started off by explaining the key rules for forest school and these are; looking after yourself, looking after others and looking after our forest school. We started the morning with exploring the forest school setting, making dens using large sticks and logs, playing on the rope swing and walking across the rope bridge. We used whittlers to whittle down some bark and create stick people. We used wool, string and leaves to decorate our stick people too.

We then had a chance to watch the ranger make a fire. She asked us lots of questions about how we can stay safe and what we need to make a fire. Once the fire was lit, we sat mesmerised by the flames and the smoke. We used a bunch of descriptive words to describe what we could see, hear and smell. Then it was time for hot chocolate and popcorn! We all agreed that the hot chocolate was delicious.

After this, we had more time to explore the woodland area. Our imaginations came alive with brilliant ideas of how to use a variety of natural materials with some of us turning into ninjas and others making homes out of our previously built dens. It was then time for lunch (which we were all very excited about). We enjoyed our lunch whilst sitting on the meadow with our friends. We had to make sure we didn’t leave any rubbish behind! We then had a go at catching and collecting bugs in jars before heading back to school in the minibuses. It was a really super day and I am sure we all felt very tired afterwards.

Once we had returned from our trip, we had a class discussion about what our favourite part of the trip was. It was great to hear the differences between what we all enjoyed the most. Lots of us liked having a packed lunch away from school. I was very impressed with the level of detail we included in our pictures and the words we wrote!

Our letter sound this week has been the f sound. Firefly, fox, four, flag and fog were just some of our super suggestions. The f letter shape is a tricky one to master however, we all gave it our best go. We are beginning to produce much more detailed pictures for our letter sound and are showing lots of pride in our work. Well done, Transition.

On Friday, it was time for us to show our new gymnastic skills to our families at the Pre-Prep coffee morning. We love having the opportunity to show parents what we have been working on within our classes. This time, we were able to show off our movements whilst using the gymnastic equipment. We hope you enjoyed watching us and seeing all that we have accomplished. Have a lovely half-term!
