Picnic on the Paddock

What a wonderful time we all had at Kent Life on Friday!

It was so lovely for all of us to be together for our Nursery trip and join in with the mini beast hunt and meeting the animals. Elizabeth was so enthusiastic with all the children and the young farmer obviously loves his job looking after the farm animals. What great names the animals had too! The children were fabulous at listening and joining in with the bug hunt and it was great to see them relaxed around the animals and giving them all a little stroke.

Our story this week about Anna Hibiscus has had us all thinking about what makes us happy. The children had a good think and drew some great pictures of the things which make them happy from the sunshine and rainbows to bananas and clouds. We also chatted about when we are not feeling so happy and that it's okay to feel sad, grumpy or shy. Myself and Mrs Sayers joined in with the conversations too, explaining to the children that we do not always feel happy and that's okay too.

The children have been exploring the natural objects by making patterns with the flowers, slate, glass gems, pine cones, conkers and shells - there was a fabulous pond made with the flowers as lily pads and the slate as stepping stones.

Outside the children have been creating some amazing potions and drinks with the petals, water, rosemary and mint using the scissors to snip and cut the stems and flowers. They then added lemon, lime and orange juice by squeezing the fruits into the water to create some refreshing drinks for Mrs Sayers and I.

In the story of Anna Hibiscus, she joins in with her aunties to pound the yam so the children used the mashers, forks and pestle to pound the sweet potatoes and white potatoes. If you are making mash this weekend you will have plenty of help.

This week we have been practising hard for our Sports Day races, joining in with confidence and enthusiasm with Transition. We also have made secrets for Father's Day (which we hope are hidden away) and the children loved going to the stall to choose something special for their daddies. And finally it was lovely to see everyone dressed up in red, white and blue for French Day and the children loved visiting the French Market in the Outdoor Classroom to enjoy juice and a pain au chocolate, which was absolutely yummy! We were then treated to a delicious picnic lunch of a cheese baguette, fruit and waffle. It was lovely for us all to enjoy a Pre-Prep French picnic on the paddock.

Next week we are looking forward to our next visit to the library to listen to some stories and choose some more books for the Nursery.

We wish all the special daddies a very happy Father's Day on Sunday.
