A superhero like you

This week we have been reading A Superhero Like You to learn about occupations and people who help us.

We started off the week by becoming detectives. At snack time, we realised that Teddington the Nursery Bear had stolen everybody's fruit! The children worked really hard as a team, using magnifying glasses to follow clues and, thankfully, they found all the snacks, and even the cheeky bear hiding in the playhouse.

We also used glue and flour to learn about fingerprint evidence, just like real detectives. The children enjoyed using the glue to write their names in secret ink, then dusting it with flour to reveal their letters.

Another occupation the children were interested in was being a firefighter. They enjoyed using mobilo to make their own fire engines to save people from the burning house. We also practised our counting and number recognition by playing the correct amount of water beads on numbered flames.

The children enjoyed learning about doctors, dentists and vets and loved roleplaying as these occupations, helping the dolls feel better. We learnt about bones by creating our own x-rays with cotton buds and practised teeth brushing.

Everybody joined in sharing what they want to be when they grow up. In Nursery Class we have future police officers, firefighters, vets, paramedics, superheroes and (my favourite); like Mummy.

I hope you all enjoy our Coffee Morning performance, have a lovely half-term break and enjoy the sunshine!
