Day and night
18 Sep 2026In science, Form 6 has been busy learning about the Earth and the moon.
Using a torch, a model of the Earth and a bit of Play-Doh to mark the UK, the children looked at how day and night occurs and how the tilt of the Earth changes day length and light/heat intensity.
Form 6 has been stepping back into the world of the Stuarts in humanities, beginning with the reign of King James I and the events surrounding the Gunpowder Plot. The children have enjoyed learning about the roles played by Guy Fawkes, Robert Catesby and the other plotters, as well as considering why they wanted to blow up Parliament and how their plan was eventually discovered.
The class have also explored some of the conspiracy theories and alternative versions of events surrounding the plot, considering the evidence for different interpretations and questioning whether everything happened exactly as the traditional story suggests. This has led to some lively discussions and encouraged the children to think carefully about how we know what happened in the past.
