Exploring Asian cultures

Form 5 have had a brilliant time during Humanities Week, which focused on exploring Asian culture through fun and hands-on activities.

The week began with activities such as a lively Bollywood dancing session. The children loved learning new moves and dancing together to upbeat music. It was energetic, colourful and got everyone smiling straight away. They also practised using chopsticks, which proved to be a fun challenge. Origami was another activity the children tried. Everyone concentrated hard to fold colourful paper into different animals. One of the most active sessions was Chinese rope jumping, where they mastered different skipping skills. The week ended with a peaceful Tai Chi session, where the children moved slowly and calmly, imagining stories like dragons waking up and butterflies fluttering through gardens. It was a relaxing way to finish such an exciting week. Form 5 learned a lot about different parts of Asian culture and had a great time doing it. It was a week full of movement, creativity and teamwork.

Form 5 explored various habitats around the Russell House grounds. These included the long jump sand pit, trees, bushes in the flower beds and long grass down by The Farm. The children were then asked to think about why the animals they found there might choose to live there. We discussed what a habitat was and what an animal might need from their own habitat.  Next, we will be examining how animals are adapted to best suit their environment.
