The faces of feelings

We have had another fun and busy week leading up to the half-term break! We've continued learning all about dinosaurs and emotions whilst focusing on The Worrysaurus and Children's Mental Health Week

We have been drawing, sticking and creating lots of different faces to help us learn about our feelings. The children are great at suggesting reasons for being happy and sad already, so we have been learning about being excited, bored, angry and proud in discussions, worksheets and creative activities. We have also been reading other stories like The Colour Monster, How Do You Feel? and many others, alongside singing and watching clips of Feeling Better.

In the story The Worrysaurus, the little dinosaur goes on a picnic, but gets worried about the rain. We tried all of last week to go for our own picnic, but we had the same problem as the dinosaur... too much rain! So we decided to put on a meadow walkthrough video and have an indoor picnic whilst reading our story. The children enjoyed listening to the sounds of nature and we spoke about what insects we could see, whilst sharing some cheese sandwiches, jam sandwiches and strawberries.

The Nursery class have continued to love playing with and learning about dinosaurs. This week we have had a frozen dinosaur small world, a dinosaur matching game, a T.rex skeleton puzzle and have even made and decorated our own dinosaurs with clay!

Our special garden visitors, the robins, have continued to visit us this week. The children have been working on creating hiding spaces or watching from the windows so we don't scare them. This week, we managed to catch them exploring our dinosaur world tuff tray, with one even going for a ride on a Tyrannosaurus rex!

We are all really looking forward to showing off our gymnastics skills in our Coffee Morning on Friday and have been practising very hard. On Wednesday, the children were feeling especially inspired after watching some of the older children from Main School (and national champions!) perform some of their routines for us. The children all watched with jaws-dropped in amazement at their incredible skills, exclaiming things like, Wow, that was so strong! and I wish I could do that. What an inspirational show of talent!

I hope you all have a lovely half term, enjoy Pancake Day, and I look forward to welcoming you back on the 23rd of February, when we will be learning about and celebrating Chinese New Year!
