Hello and good morning

On Thursday, we celebrated Modern Foreign Languages Day and we kicked off the day with all the class saying hello or good morning in the language of their chosen country.

It was wonderful to see all the different outfits and countries that were represented and we loved hearing about China, Iran and Thailand from our visiting parents in assembly. In Form 6 alone, we had children dress up to represent 17 different countries! Well done for all the effort that went into the superb costumes.

In gymnastics this week, the children have been developing their backward rolls. We looked at getting the correct hand positioning and being able to rock backwards with a curved back. The children then worked on their backward rolls using a ramp and then some children were able to try a backward roll to straddle, a backward roll to front support and even a backward roll to handstand.

In humanities, Form 6 has been learning about the Stuarts and the major events of that time in British history. Starting with the Gunpowder Plot, they investigated the growing tension over religion and the Catholics’ dislike of King James. They then discovered the causes and consequences of the English Civil War. They learned about the key battles and the differences between the cavaliers who supported the King and the Roundheads who supported Parliament.

Finally, a huge congratulations to the U10/11 A Football Team, who won the Spring Grove Tournament on Wednesday!
