Hot, happy and having fun!

H is for hot, happy and having fun!

We have been making the most of the sunshine this week, enjoying lots of story and snack times under the shade of the trees. We have also been thinking about how we take care of ourselves on those very hot days, by choosing calm activities, drinking plenty of water and staying out of the hot sun. We even turned our activity table into a paddling pool and created a foot spa area, so the children could dip their toes in! It was lovely to see the children happily chatting with their friends, while they cooled off in the water.

On Monday, we thoroughly enjoyed watching the Form 6 and Form 7 play. All of the children performed spectacularly and the songs were wonderful. Transition made a wonderful audience and sat and watched with impeccable behaviour.

We have been very busy practising for our own performance and are very much looking forward to our Pre-Prep Celebration. The songs are sounding and looking lovely and the children are very excited to show you their hard work! Please see the note in their contact books regarding the accessory that they need to bring in for Monday!

The discovery of a pirate treasure map on Tuesday, caused a lot of excitement in class. We looked carefully at the map and worked out that our starting point was the gate to the paddock. Once there, we had to count 50 paces, before turning left and walking another 10. I was very glad to have the children count so carefully as I kept forgetting my numbers! The next instruction took us around a large tree, before finally arriving at X marks the spot! It wasn’t long before the children found the treasure chest which contained ten gold coins!

We sat down with our treasure, but there was a problem: Some cheeky little pirates kept stealing the coins! We had to work out how many were left by writing out the sum on a whiteboard and by counting the remaining coins. It was so much fun and a wonderful way to learn about subtraction.

Our letter sound this week was which fitted in perfectly with the hot weather! The pirate theme also continued with hook and hand being suggested, too. We loved the way that we could feel heat on our hands when we practised saying the sound. The children have been letting me know if they spot our sound when we’re reading books together or when the other children are sharing their news. This week lots of hands shot up into the air when someone said they had walked up a high hill

We’ve also harvested some of our vegetables this week and will be giving them to Mrs Wray in the kitchen, to transform them into something delicious for us to eat! We won’t be wasting any of the plant though, as we’ll also use the beetroot stalks to make some paint.

I can’t believe that the school year is almost over, but what wonderful times we have had together! It’s been a privilege to have shared this journey with the children in Transition and to watch how they’ve grown and flourished. All of the children should feel incredibly proud of everything they have achieved. I wish you all a wonderful and relaxing summer holiday.
