How many jelly beans?
06 Mar 2026As part of Form 6's Book Week activities, they read the book How Many Jelly Beans? with Mr Shield in maths.
The children loved seeing the pictures of the vast quantities of jelly beans, including the finale with 1,000,000 jelly beans on the page! Once the story finished, the children used the information to investigate other problems with jelly beans. Some used the average length of a jelly bean (2cm) to measure some world landmarks. Did you know that the Shard is 15480 jelly beans tall? Another group used the story as inspiration to investigate triangular numbers. Imagining that they had been given 1 jelly bean on the first day of the year, then 2 on the second, 3 on the third and so on, the children were tasked with finding a shortcut to work out how many jelly beans they would have been given at the end of a full year.
On Wednesday we received a visit from Helen Peters, whose books we already stock in our library! After finding out a little bit about her, we were asked to help solve a mystery about Winston Churchill, which was set during World War 2. We loved receiving our brand new signed books and went off to start reading them straight after our visit.
Form 6 are busy preparing songs for various music events taking place during the Spring and Summer Terms. We eagerly look forward to their final performances.
