Moon dust and rockets

This week, Transition have been continuing our focus on space.

The children have been very busy continuing to create pieces of art for our new In The Night Sky display. We created planets by carefully manoeuvring a marble in a tray to spread the paint around and create an interesting effect for our planets. We have also been looking at star constellations and used stickers and chalks to create our own constellations. The display is looking brilliant and the children are very proud to show off their work to any visitors in our classroom.

All of the children were very excited to discover a tuff tray with moon dust and rockets this week. Using fingers and paintbrushes, they were able to draw different patterns and shapes in the moon dust and use the space rockets to blast off on their own adventures.

The letter sound for this week has been p. As always, the children came up with fantastic suggestions for the p sound including pin, pan, penguin, pentagon and pea! P is quite a tricky letter to form and so we did lots of practising with magic fingers in the air and even made a train of children and practised forming the letter on each other's backs.

Linking to our letter sound this week, there was lots of interest in the tray of dried peas. Some children were using the balance scales to measure different amounts of peas and see which was heavier, lighter and if they could make them equal to balance. Other children were baking with the peas and making delicious chocolate cakes for a birthday party!

We have had lots of fun celebrating World Kindness Day on Monday, reading the story Have You Filled a Bucket Today. In the story, everyone carries an imaginary bucket with them that gets filled every time someone is kind to you. We have had our very own real bucket in Transition this week. It has been lovely to see it filling up each day with all of the kind words and actions used in and around school. The story prompted us to think about different types of emotions and the children have been showing a good understanding of this by drawing faces to show each emotion using our feelings fans to help them.

We have also been very busy practising for our upcoming Nativity. The children are doing very well with practising the songs and are getting more confident in saying their lines with big voices. Mrs Nelson even had a costume fitting with each of the children so that we are all ready for the stage!
