Our library visit

We had a super busy start to our week, beginning with our school photos on Monday morning, and then our trip to Otford Library on Tuesday! The children loved going on the minibus (asking to go on it again for the rest of the week) and enjoyed meeting the librarians who had some fun activities planned for us.

All of our activities this week have been about the story We're Going on a Bear Hunt, and the children have learnt so much and worked incredibly hard! We started by reading the story all together, taking a good look at the illustrations and discussing what we could see, how the characters felt on each page, and repeating the refrains from the story together. The children then used these ideas to role-play the story on our messy, small-world tuff tray; this not only used imagination and memory skills, but was a great sensory experience too.

In our learning journals we have made a story map by cutting out events from the story and placing them in the correct order, and have also been sorting, counting and measuring our bears to work on mathematics skills.

The children have also been very busy crafting this week for our Bear Hunt display, using a variety of resources and materials to create the scenes from the story. However, their favourite activity this week was creating their own binoculars, which we then used to go on our very own bear hunt at school. Every child found a bear, and we then took turns to re-hide them to play again!

On Wednesday morning, we also had our Pre-Prep assembly and awarded our second leaf of the term to a child who worked really hard in one of their journal activities, taking great care to colour in the lines and match the colours correctly, even persisting when their hand got a bit achey. Next week for Recycle Week, we will be reading Michael Recycle and learning all about how to save the planet.
