Painting ceilings

This week in humanities, Form 5 have continued exploring the fascinating period of the Renaissance.

They have been researching influential figures such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and the Medici family, learning how these individuals helped spark a wave of new thinking across art, science and society. The class also discussed the importance of Galileo’s discoveries, including his bold ideas about the Earth’s place in the universe. To bring history to life, the children had a go at recreating Michelangelo’s famous ceiling painting technique by lying on their backs and drawing on the underside of their desks. Their arms ached after just a few minutes, giving them a small taste of the effort involved in creating a masterpiece.

Excitement is also building as work has begun on the Form 5 production of Greece Went to Pieces. Roles have been given out and scripts are in hand as rehearsals start for this fun and educational musical. The show will explore life in Ancient Greece through songs, humour and drama, and the class are already showing great enthusiasm for bringing the story to the stage.
