Prisms, poetry and prose
16 May 2025In maths, Form 5 have been trying to find the volume of prisms.
In order to do this, they need to find the area of the base of a shape before multiplying it by the height. Once they had cracked this, the children moved on to measuring real-life prisms in order to calculate the volume.
In English, the class has been looking at contrast in poetry and prose, using the poems The Sea by James Reeves and The Ocean's Blanket by Carol Ann Duffy. They worked in groups to practise and perform The Ocean's Blanket, which paints the ocean as a blanket that can protect, keep us warm, keep us hidden, whilst also being able to trap us. The children added drama, expression and movement to the poem to communicate the different metaphors.
