Road safety
13 Jun 2025This week’s topics in Russell Robins were Road Safety, Healthy Eating and Father’s Day.
We’ve certainly had an action-packed week, exploring our topics whilst also continuing with 30 Day Wild throughout the month of June. In fact, I spotted a red kite flying above the Long Garden and the children enjoyed watching it. Red kites are identified by their distinctively forked tails.
The Robins enjoyed collecting our shopping on Monday from the Old Hall and they were super excited to see a juicy watermelon on the table. It sure is a great way to stay hydrated whilst also cooling us down.
When I walk across the road,
When I walk across the road,
I need to stop , look
and listen
When I walk across the road
When I walk across the road,
Oh when I walk across the road,
I need to hold hands with a grown up,
When I walk across the road.
Road safety is such an important topic which raises awareness of how to stay safe around traffic. The children were able to identify a variety of transport vehicles on the road. Brake is such a great charity and if you’d like to learn more about their amazing work or perhaps use some of the useful learning material, please click on the following link: https://www.brake.org.uk/about-brake
Lots of fun was had driving cars around the school grounds. They enjoyed collecting leaves on their journey and we even stopped to rescue a bumblebee!
Healthy Eating has also been enjoyed by all, along with some delicious rhubarb cake. In fact, it was veeeerrrryy yummy! The cake bowl was passed around and the children used their super-strong muscles to mix it round. One of the children brought in a book from home which we shared during snack time. The children made connections between the book and our fruit and vegetable snack.
Our other cooking activities consisted of bread rolls, fruit lollies and chocolate brownies. The Robins enjoyed counting the eggs and pouring milk. Each child had a turn and even a yummy taste once it was cooked. There was lots of concentration as the children chopped strawberries and bananas before adding them to the smoothie maker. Once mixed, we transferred them to lolly moulds and put them in the freezer.
The Robins have been very busy making some lovely things for Father’s Day. They were very independent, making their cards so each one is unique and special.
Sports Day will soon be approaching and we the children are all working extremely hard on their running, throwing and balancing. We are all looking forward to the teddy bears’ picnic and there might even be a special ice lolly treat to keep us cool.
Our topics for next week are Sport and Staying Fit. Your child is welcome to bring in something from home linked to our topic or their interests (bookbag size). They will have the opportunity to share these during Show and Tell.
