Shade of the trees

We have been making the most of the sunshine this week, enjoying lots of story and snack times under the shade of the trees.

We have also been thinking about how we take care of ourselves on those very hot days, by choosing calm activities, drinking plenty of water and staying out of the hot sun. Transition have become sun safety experts!

We started our week with a mystery! Someone had visited our classroom over the weekend and left behind an eye patch, a compass and a map, but who could it be? Transition were excellent at using the clues to deduce who had been in our classroom… Pirates!  We decided to follow the map in search of the pirate treasure! We set off on our quest, taking turns to use the map and compass to check we were going the right way until we eventually reached X marks the spot! Once there, the children dug carefully until we found the pirate treasure buried underneath the pirate ship. It was a pirate book! We found a shady spot and enjoyed listening to the tale of a little boy who had lost his puppy on Pirate Island. He had to hunt high and low to find him, but be careful, Don't Disturb the Pirates! The children listened beautifully to the story and they came up with some super questions as they were intrigued by the different pirate paraphernalia in the story, including cannonballs and ship wrecks.

After our story, we made the most of the cool morning breeze and we used our muscles as we climbed on the Pirate Ship and the trim trail. It has been lovely to see the children’s confidence grow throughout the year, climbing higher and quicker, pushing themselves a little bit further each time. We had so much fun exploring the Paddock using our treasure map and the children loved playing pirates on the Pirate Ship, keeping an eye out for an oncoming ship or a glisten of pirate gold.

After break, we thoroughly enjoyed watching the Form 6 and Form 7 play. All of the children performed spectacularly and the songs were wonderful. Transition made a wonderful audience and sat and watched with impeccable behaviour. What a treat, well done Transition. We have been very busy practising for our own performance and are very much looking forward to our Pre-Prep Celebration. The songs are sounding and looking lovely and the children are very excited to show you their hard work!

The children have also been very busy in their new ice cream parlour this week, taking turns to mix and serve ice cream for each other. The children are really beginning to develop their roleplay and it has been so lovely to see everyone joining in and having a go. The shop was so busy that on Wednesday we had sold out of ice cream and we had to work together to make some more! We followed our new recipe carefully to make lots of different flavours of ice cream for our shop, including chocolate, strawberry, mint and blueberry. I was impressed by how patiently everyone waited for their turn and worked together so harmoniously to get the job done to keep those customers happy!

We used our imagination to build our very own pirate ship in Transition garden this week, using the planks, crates and poles. The children loved wearing their pirate role-play masks and even made the teachers walk the plank! They kept their pirate gold safe and used fantastic careful counting skills as they counted out the correct number of gold coins onto the number cards. Even though some of the bigger numbers were a bit tricky, when we worked together, it became easier and we counted until we ran out of coins!
