Skill and strategy

Welcome back to the Summer Term! It's been lovely hearing all about the adventures the children have been on over the Easter break, especially the Russell House Ski Trip, which was enjoyed by so many of the class.

This week, Form 6 has been exploring the rise of the British Empire and they have investigated the 'Scramble for Africa'. The children played a game taking it in turns to colonise parts of Africa, following specific goals set by a government. For example, Britain wanted a railroad from the north to south of the continent. They had to show strategy and an understanding of their countries aspirations to succeed. It gave the children a good insight into what was happening at the time and some of the decision making that was taking place. They then took a closer look at some of the reasons for wanting to colonise Africa and the impact of these events.

This week has also seen the start of cricket and athletics. The children have been developing their high jump technique and they have also been working hard on their bowling in cricket. We look forward to starting our fixtures in week 3!
