Stepping up to lead
12 Jun 2026What an action-packed week we have had!
On Monday, 16 children stood in front of the Main School and delivered their speeches in the School Council Hustings and what an amazing job they all did! We could not be more proud of of the children for their well-rehearsed and beautifully presented speeches. It's clear that a lot of time, thought and effort went into preparing their speeches and their fantastic posters too. Congratulations to all the candidates and we wish them all the best of luck when the results are announced during Prize Giving next month.
On Wednesday, everyone brought in a donation for Demelza, supporting the Staff's Ben Nevis Climb, which is taking place this weekend. They were all treated to a delicious cupcake or doughnut, which may have been their highlight of the week! The girls also had their final cricket fixture of the year and they will now move onto athletics for the last two weeks. The boys are looking forward to their final cricket match next week.
On Thursday, we celebrated our annual French Day. The children came to school dressed in red, white and blue and they enjoyed a superb assembly in French, by Forms 4 and 7. Their French lesson was full of fun activities and they then all enjoyed a French picnic for lunch, although it was a shame about the weather!
Form drew on their French and scientific knowledge to discover the identity of an unknown metal. They remembered, from their Space topic, that each element burns with a different coloured flame and this is how scientists can identify elements on stars beyond our solar system. They used the technique of burning metal compounds in the hottest part of the Bunsen burner to see the colours. The instructions and the worksheet, however, were all in French.
