The circle of life

This week we have started learning about life cycles and minibeasts. We have been reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Growing Frogs and The Tiny Seed to help our learning.

After watching our caterpillars grow into butterflies over the last few weeks, the children already knew a lot about the life cycle of a butterfly, remembering keywords like cocoon and chrysalis. They enjoyed our sensory caterpillar tray where they had to use their fine motor skills with tweezers to feed the caterpillar. They have also been working really hard on their writing skills in a pencil-control workbook, all based on The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

One of the Nursery children was very excited when we learnt about the life cycle of a frog, already knowing all the stages and using words like frogspawn and tadpole. She was very excited to share this knowledge with her peers. We then explored another sensory and messy tuff tray all about frogs. We had to scoop past the slimy frogspawn and lily pads to find all the frogs hiding in the murky pond water. The whole class enjoyed exploring the different textures and using magnifying glasses to have a closer look.

This week, we also had our Sports Day. The children were all fantastic in their races and everybody enjoyed showing off their running skills to their parents watching. What a great bunch of team players we have in Nursery!

We have also made our own paint out of berries. The children enjoyed squashing the berries into juice and then used paint brushes to make marks, looking at the various colours we had made using different fruits.

Next week we are continuing to learn about life cycles and minibeasts. Wishing you all a fantastic weekend and a Happy Father's Day! Keep an eye on our Instagram and Facebook where the photos of Sports Day will be posted soon.
