The way the cookie crumbles
29 Nov 2024An exciting week in school began with the book fair, which took place on Monday in Russell Hall.
There was a marvellous selection of books for children to choose from, including non-fiction books on our humanities topic of WWII, as well as dinosaurs and many other mind-blowing fact books. There were also a lot of story books by authors such as Katherine Rundell, J.K. Rowling and Thomas Taylor. In addition to this, there were Christmas books, which were full of craft activities. This was a lovely experience for everyone and Form 7 enjoyed selecting their books.
Elsewhere in school, Form 7 have been continuing to design and make leisure centres in groups. The children have been tasked with making rooms, with things like pools and restaurants in them, just like a real leisure centre would have. The children began by making a plan of what it will look like and how they will make it. This included the materials that they would have to use on the work boards. Next, they had to make the different parts of the leisure centre. Some people began by making the pool or by putting the walls up. I am looking forward to sharing the finished pieces of work.
In computing, the children have been working in groups to create their own customised apps over the past few weeks. They found this particularly fun as they also got to present their ideas to the whole school, who then voted for a winning app. Congratulations must go to the winners, whose app The Way the Cookie Crumbles was voted as the Russell House favourite.
As disappointing as it was for the boys’ team's final games to be lost to weather, we did have a full programme of girls’ hockey matches in this final week of fixtures, including an important tournament for the A team. On Wednesday, they travelled to the IAPS Hockey Championship, held in Hampshire, after qualifying for the event earlier in the school year. The team won three matches and lost two, resulting in a fourth place finish. The team performed very well despite the freezing cold conditions - a big well done to all those involved!
