When a dragon goes to school
05 Sep 2025A very warm welcome back to school to Transition class!
We have had a busy few days getting settled back into school life. I am very proud of all of the Transition pupils for taking the new term in their stride, working together to try new things and show kindness to each other. It seems we are certainly in for an exciting term ahead!
We started the new school year off with an extra-long play time, allowing the children to explore the resources and activities in their classroom. Some of their favourites included; exploring textures and patterns in the playdough, building their own dinosaur city in the small world area and taking the babies to a birthday party in the role-play area. Some children also enjoyed exploring together in the sand and water, and practising their maths skills with games on the interactive board.
We had a great circle time discussing our summer holidays. The children were eager to share their stories with each other, and asked lots of good questions to their friends. We practised taking turns to talk and discussed how to be respectful as we listened to each other. Each child then had a go at creating a picture of their favourite summer moment, which will look great on display in our classroom. We also practised writing our name on the back of our picture and I was very impressed by everyone’s attitude to giving writing a go, even when it was a little bit tricky!
This week, we have also been thinking about our emotions and how we can use different words to explain how we are feeling. We enjoyed reading the book When a Dragon Goes to School to help familiarise ourselves with the new routines and expectations in Transition. All the children have been fantastic in their first attempts at these routines, looking and listening carefully to find their own pegs and draws, helping them to take ownership of their own belongings. I am also very pleased to say we have shared lots of happy smiles and giggles as we continue to settle into Transition.
We look forward to another fun week next week as we continue getting used to these routines and share our likes and dislikes in our theme All About Me.
