A rocking workshop!
23 Jan 2026Form 4 had an exciting rock workshop this week.
They spent the whole day finding out about how rocks and soils are formed and carrying out a range of exciting experiments. These involved hiding plastic dinosaurs in sedimentary rock, heating wax to represent metamorphic rock formation, and using effervescent tablets to simulate volcanic eruptions.
The children also learnt lots of tricks to remember key information and to identify various different rocks. They proved adept at sorting rocks according to various properties and had good fun using microscopes to get a better look at individual rocks.
A particular highlight was making their own fossil using plaster of Paris in a mold they had made using plasticine and a shell. The children were all excited to take these home as a keepsake from the day.
Please see our Facebook Page for more photos and a video of the erupting volcanoes.
In other subjects, the children have been writing non-chronological reports in English and focusing on data handling in maths. They have also investigated Anglo-Saxon houses and villages.
