Aboard the Investigator
16 Jan 2026This has been a very busy week for the Form 6 children.
Workshops have started, clubs have restarted and so too have our sports fixtures. On Wednesday, the boys played their first rugby matches and the girls played their first netball matches of the season and there are lots more to come. We also have seen some of the class participate in the first chess match of the year. Well done, everyone!
During a video call at the beginning of the week, Form 6 had the opportunity to pose questions to a team of scientists aboard a research vessel bound for the Antarctic waters. The pupils had many good questions about the voyage and the work upon the Investigator. SeatoSchoolAU also kindly sent us some additional information about the vessel via Facebook, based on a question asked by one of our Form 6 pupils!

This week, the class has started a new book, The Boy at the Back of the Class, by Onjali Q. Rauf. It tells the story of a refugee from Syria, who ends up in an English school. Through the eyes of the nine-year-old storyteller, we learn about what Ahmet, the refugee, has been through and some of the challenges he faces now he has fled his home. The class has been enjoying learning about and discussing this very relevant topic and also the charming humour of the nameless storyteller, who is desperate to make friends with the new boy.
In French, Form 6 has been learning about the weather, which has been a very popular topic of conversation this week!
