All about Africa

Another super week in the nursery, as we have been focussing on our story Handa's Surprise and learning about Africa; from the traditional clothing and jewellery, to foods and animals.

The children tasted the fruits from the story and we played a fun sensory game where they had to put their hand inside a box and guess what fruit they could feel. This helped us to learn new adjectives to describe what we could feel, remember parts of the story, as well as support our confidence to try new things!

In keeping with our story of the week, we have also been practising our small motor skills in writing and drawing activities. We have drawn the different types of fruit, matching the colours and paying attention to their shapes. Also, lots of the children showed great pencil control when tracing lines this week.

On Thursday, we celebrated National Poetry Day by learning about rhyming words, what this means and how to rhyme. The children loved making up nonsense rhyming words to their names!

Throughout the week, we have done so much singing and music practice! We are getting closer to our performances and the children are all getting very excited, singing our songs both in music and back in the nursery! Our signs of the week this week have been based around the farm, helping us to sing Old MacDonald.

Next week we will be focusing on Space Week, reading a story called Look Up. Wishing you all a lovely weekend!
