All about me
13 Sep 2024It has been a fantastic week in Transition getting to know each other more during our All About Me week.
We enjoyed a lovely circle time together where we shared things about ourselves. Children decided to share about their brothers and sisters, pets, favourite colour, favourite TV shows and hobbies. We realised that sometimes we are the same as other people and sometimes we are different and that that’s okay. This led us on to reading the story The Smeds and the Smoos, a lovely book in which the aliens learn that it’s good to be kind to everyone, even if you are different to each other!
The children worked very hard with Mrs Nelson and Miss Keeling to complete their All About Me Flowers and everyone drew a lovely self-portrait in the middle. We also used the information about each other to create a display outside of our classroom with everyone’s painting from last week and a fact about them! We hope that this will be a lovely introduction to us for people who visit the Transition classroom.
It has been very exciting for our older children this week as they have begun their phonics lessons in Form 1 with Mrs Cooper! The children excitedly came back into Transition on Monday telling me all about how they had been superstars and the fun phonics games that they had played. The younger children stay in Transition during this time and we have been practising our phonics skills including listening carefully to instructions and listening for the initial sounds in words.
The new children to Transition also did their first ever letter sound lesson this week! Our letter sound was i, which is a very tricky sound as not many words begin with an i. Nevertheless, the children demonstrated their perseverance by thinking carefully about which words we could draw. They thought of Imogen, insect, igloo and ill. All of the children worked very hard at completing their letter sound sheet. The older children were fantastic helpers showing the new children where to do their drawings and how to form the letter!
