An exciting term ahead

A very warm welcome back to school to Transition class!

We have had a busy few days getting settled back into school life. I am very proud of all the Transition pupils for taking the new term in their stride with happy smiles and kindness to each other. It seems we are certainly in for an exciting term ahead.

We started the new school year off with an extra long play time, allowing the children to explore the resources and activities in their classroom. We are very lucky to now have an interactive board in our classroom which the children have thoroughly enjoyed playing phonics and maths games on this week.

We have been thinking lots about faces and learned what the word portrait means. All the children have painted a self-portrait for our display board outside the classroom. They had to think carefully about how to make the right colour paint for their skin and which colour to choose for their eyes and their hair. Some children have also been making playdough faces or loose parts faces in their play this week.

We have also been thinking about our feelings and how we can use different words to explain how we are feeling. We enjoyed reading the book The Colour Monster to help us understand our feelings.

We had a great circle time discussing the initial sound of everyone’s name. All the children have also had a try at writing their names this week. I was very impressed by everyone’s attitude to giving writing a go, even when it was a little bit tricky! Some children chose to create a collage for the first letter of their name, which looks great on display in our classroom.

We look forward to another fun week next week as we continue getting used to the routines in Transition and share our likes and dislikes in our theme All About Me.
