Athletes and mathletes
19 Jun 2026This has been an excellent week for sport in Form 7, kicking off with Sports Day on Tuesday, where the children were able to showcase their athletic talents in a range of events, which ultimately resulted in a victory for Cavell.
Keep an eye on our Instagram and Facebook where the photos of Sports Day will be posted soon.
It was also pleasing to see the results of all the children's hard work in athletics displayed by the girls at an athletics meet at Hazelwood on Wednesday. At this competition (of which we are still eagerly awaiting for the final results to be emailed), many of the Form 7 girls secured noteworthy results, including victories in the 150m sprint, the 600m run, the long jump and the shot put.
This week, the children also competed in their house groups for Inter-House Maths. In this competition, they had to score as many points as possible across three activities, which were crossnumbers (think a crossword with calculation questions), ditloids and a mental arithmetic race. Would you have been able to solve some of Form 7’s favourite ditloids, such as 1000 K in a T, 2 is the FPN and 2 P of PL on a P?
Wednesday saw the visit of the Father’s Day stall. The children enjoyed choosing gifts for the special men in their lives and we are grateful to the RHPA members that came and helped to organise, present and wrap the gifts for us.
Finally, the preparation for the Summer Production has gone up a level this week with the introduction of costumes. On Thursday, the Form 7s took part in their technical rehearsal, which is their final full run-through of the production, before sharing it with a live audience on Monday. I would encourage parents to spend a little time with their children over the weekend to practise lines so that the children can attack Monday’s dress rehearsal to the school at full confidence.
